1922-2022: A Century of Change Oral History Collection (Part 2)

To mark Ireland’s commemoration of the centenary of the formation of the Irish Free State (Saorstát Eireann) Irish Life and Lore has undertaken a significant three-year oral history project entitled 1922-2022: A Century of Change.

Part 1 of the collection comprising 133 recordings was completed in November 2019. We are delighted to announce that Part 2 of the collection is now completed.

You can browse the 87 new oral history recordings on our website.

Our aim for the 1922-2022 A Century of Change oral history collection is to record and catalogue the testimony of up to 300 individuals who themselves, or their immediate families, have helped to create the vibrant Ireland in which we live and work today.

The interviewees in parts 1 and 2 of the three-part collection include leaders in business and finance, in the arts and culture arenas, in media, agriculture, education, politics, engineering and architecture, health, the defence forces, and sport.

In the third parts of the oral history project, we intend to add new voices in these categories as well as testimony from individuals who originate from countries outside of Ireland, but who have made a significant impact on life in this country.

Part two of the collection was lunched digitally in the RDS on 9 December 2020 and the final part will be launched in 2022 to coincide with the centenary of the formation of the Irish Free State. The launch events will recognise the people whose testimony has been recorded during those years and sound clips from each of the recorded interviews will be played.

We are currently seeking funding from individuals and/or Government bodies or private enterprise to complete the third and final part of this Oral History Collection. All benefactors will be cited on all online and printed material produced by Irish Life and Lore in relation to the 1922-2022: A Century of Change Oral History Collection.

We would welcome suggestions in relation to individuals whose work has made a significant contribution to Irish life over the past 100 years. Please feel free to contact us at info@irishlifeandlore.com
