Launch of the Irish Life and Lore Heritage Oral History Collection

The Irish Life and Lore Heritage Oral History Collection was launched by Dr Martin Mansergh at the RDS in Dublin on Wednesday 15th March at 2.30pm. The new Irish Life and Lore website was launched at the same event.


The Heritage Collection is comprised of 29 audio recordings compiled in various locations in Ireland over the past ten years. Rich and varied in content, the Heritage Collection and its accompanying catalogue represent a tapestry of human experience in Ireland during the twentieth century.

People recorded include

  • Jack Brabazon, 15th Earl of Meath
  • George Briscoe of Ballinter House
  • The late Heather Callaghan, well known in the world of horse-racing
  • The late Fr John Chisholm  on the War of Independence in West Cork
  • Ann Dalby, granddaughter of R.R. Cherry, one of the last Chief Justices of Ireland
  • Sylvester Donlan on brickmaking in Co. Offaly
  • Sham Downey on Kilkenny Hurling
  • Bertie Ahern on the Good Friday Agreement
  • Dr Roy Johnston on science and politics in twentieth Ireland.
