Track 1: Barry O’Regan is originally from Bantry, Co. Cork and his wife Mary (née O’Sullivan) comes from Sneem. She explains that her mother worked as a cook at the Great Southern Hotel, Parknasilla, for 43 years, and her father also worked there in the gardens and farm. She describes her memories of growing up in the area and explains that she and her mother moved to the Cottage Lodge on the grounds of the hotel in 1961, following her father’s death. She was then also employed at the hotel. Track 2: She began in the Reception Office where she worked for fifteen years, and she describes her work there. Barry explains the circumstances which brought him to work in maintenance at the hotel in 1970, where he was to meet his future wife. Track 3: Mary recalls the staff with whom she worked, the staff quarters in Bishop’s House, the leisure activities enjoyed by the staff and the dancehall at Sneem where she met Barry. She recalls her father’s work on the farm at the hotel for seven days a week, and she and Barry discuss union issues at the hotel in earlier days.
