Seamus Neenan

Seamus Neenan is widely known for his great knowledge of his local place, and he has put pen to paper over the years on many subjects relating to local history. This recording is compiled on location, beginning outside the derelict building on the Barry Estate which was the birthplace of Dr Croke, after whom Croke Park is named. Seamus’ father, William Neenan worked on the estate. Greenhall is the next location for the recording, where Seamus Neenan farms, and he discusses the major changes which have come about in farming practices over the years. Across the fields is Poll an Cait, where Seamus relates the folk tale of two sisters and their jealousy in relation to an O’Keeffe chieftain.
