Track 1 :His background in Clonliffe Road within north inner city Dublin, and his early education. Entering Dublin University without his Bishop’s permission (which came later) as an undergraduate and attending evening classes for his BA and BComm. In 1956 his entry to Trinity College to the diploma in Public Administration. Track 2: His successful boxing career with the College during his student days. Track 3: Working for British Railways while a student in Trinity. His golfing successes. Track 4: In 1961 his apprenticeship with a business systems company in Dublin and, in 1964, his post as Student Records Officer at Trinity – prior to 1962, administration posts in Trinity had been held by academic staff. His role in this post, which included establishing a coding system of records, a system that endures to the present day. Memories of his membership from 1978 of DUCAC (Dublin Universities Central Athletic Club).
