Dr Garrett Fitzgerald was recorded at his home, where he recalled his ancestral background, his parents’ involvement in the 1916-22 Troubles, his upbringing in Bray and his earliest memories of his father being provided with military protection after the shooting of Kevin O’Higgins. He has a clear recollection of his mother talking about Michael Collins. He spoke about the Blueshirt period, his schooldays, his favourite academic subjects and his first job in the sales department with Aer Lingus.
