Description
The Hannon family has in the village of Beale for ten generations. Liam Hannon spoke about the family occupation, going back generations, of piloting boats on the Shannon. Liam shares stories about sailing across from the north Kerry coast to the Clare coast as well as details of local archaeology which included prehistoric stone alignment and Beale Castle. The pagan traditions in North Kerry are also discussed. The recording also features a discussion about the recordings carried out locally by Fr Cornelius O’Keeffe, the editor of the ‘Shannonside Annuals,’ in the 50s and 60s. Liam Hannon, who is the grandson of Bill Hannon whose voice appeared on the early tapes recorded by Fr O’Keeffe, recalls for me the stories as told by his grandfather.
