Lambe’s grocery business in the Main Street in Athboy is the home place of Maureen Phelan. Her family has owned the business since her father had purchased it ninety years ago. This recording is replete with banter and humour as Maureen describes her early days growing up in Athboy and her days serving behind the counter from a very young age. She recalls the people who arrived on Fair days, the hawkers who sold their wares and the hauliers who delivered goods from the trains to town. She recalls the entertainments and pastimes, the local cinema and the dancehall.
