The Martin family have lived at Martry for generations. Most of Oliver’s working life was spent at Claytons Textile Company. He discusses the changes in management over the years, the staff, the work rules and regulations which were very much of the old school. He also recalls the customers and suppliers. When the company had been wound up, he continued to work with Kohn Brannigan, the new owner. He is adamant that the withdrawal of Government contracts for the supply of fabrics for Garda and Army uniforms, for Aer Lingus seat covers, and for upholstery fabrics in general, led to the gradual decline of the Claytons business.
