Peadar O’Neill is a fisherman from Enniscrone. He began fishing with his father and his grandfather before him was also a fisherman. He talks about his grandfather and his father who would go trawling in sailing boats, which was very skilled work. Peadar remembers catching lots of lobsters and other fish when he was young and he describes how he used to make trawls and set them up. He discusses a time when bailiffs were lifting lots of nets because of illegal net fixing in the water. Also described in detail is the making of the lobster pots and how they worked. Peadar remembers fishing for herring in his own boat and the difficulties involved.
