MARY PARKINSON, AGE 73, SLEVOIR, TERRYGLASS

This recording begins with Mary Parkinson’s fond memories of her schooldays, and her daily chores on the farm. The happiest days of her life were spent going to the bog with a pony and cart to feed the men. Another of her tasks was to make the black puddings, which she shared with her neighbours. She recalled the travelling groups who would perform plays locally. Fishing was another topic for discussion, the netting of perch, the fishing for pike, and how fish would be sold to the neighbours. This interview also includes a discussion on the selling of corn, and the many tasks carried out within the house itself.
