Agnes Byrne grew up in Templepeter. She spoke about her schooldays there, and her teachers, and later she moved to Graiguenamanagh, where she met her husband. For over half a century, she served behind the counter in the James Byrne pub in the village of Glyn. Agnes proudly showed me the interior of the pub, which has not changed for many years as she described the beer and spirits which were sold in the past, and recalled the village people who frequented the pub. It was a meeting point for the local people which made it a very important part of the life of the community.
