Bill Lyons is a veterinary surgeon who has led an interesting life. He grew up in Navan and he begins this recording by discussing his family background. His great grandfather was a baker in the town and his father was a veterinary surgeon, also in Navan. Bill gives accounts of traditional methods of caring for animals, the Land Commission’s work in the Gibbstown area, and the farmers there. He recalls his brief spell in England after he qualified, Fair days and creameries in Navan town, the huge changes over the decades in farming. He also speaks about farming organisations, associations, and institutions in a wide ranging recording.
