In this recording Bobby Buckley focuses once again on the early days of his career in Kerry. His family background in farming, his early education and his teachers provided a wonderful grounding for what became a most challenging career in education. In the 1960s and 1970s it was practically impossible to secure funding for education in Ireland but owing to the foresight of Minister for Education Donogh O’Malley, the emphasis changed with the advent of free education. These were very exciting times when new beginnings and the breaking down of barriers became possible. This was obvious to Bobby Buckley as he sat on the board of Cork RTC. He was totally committed to his involvement in education in this progressive climate.
