Description
Track 1: Growing up in the 1930s in Glasgow and the 1940s and 50s in the variety business. He explains the different terms used in the entertainment business. Track 2: His earliest memories of acting in the ‘Fit-ups’, beginning at the age of eight. Track 3: The years of continual travelling up and down the country, learning new scripts. Track 4: Bill-posters advertising shows are discussed. Track 5: A discussion on actor Charlie Doyle, getting permission to perform in parish halls, transport, staying in boarding houses and meeting other companies on the road. Track 6: He names the different shows he was involved in down through the years and also the tradition of marrying within the acting community. Going into circuses full-time, doing clowning and magic acts. Track 7: Working with the greats – Maureen Potter, Jimmy O’Dea, Hilton Edwards and Michael MacLiammoir.
