Surrounded by family memorabilia at the Corish house, Des Corish began the interview by talking about his father’s political life. He recalls his parents’ involvement in the Wexford Music Society, and their love for the music and performances. His mother Katy was in the chorus and had an excellent voice. He details Dr Tom Walsh’s life prior to his involvement with the Opera Festival. He recalls his late brother Brendan’s career in politics. He also speaks about his own life as an official in the Trade Union Movement in Dublin from the early fifties till 1963, his work in the pub business in Wexford from 1963 to 1972, and his time in the Corporation and County Council in Wexford.
