Description
Dr Jim Liddy worked closely with Dr Tom Walsh and Dr Des French in organising and promoting the first Opera Festival. Dr Nora Liddy recalls many happy memories, in particular of Fr Enda Keane, a Franciscan friar, who would train the chorus late into the night. She recalled her father, listening to short-wave radio, picking up Italian and French music programmes to identify talented performers, who would then be contacted by Dr Tom Walsh on visits to Europe. Dr Walsh would arrange a contract so that they would perform in Wexford. Nora spoke about the Friends of the Opera, and she described the dedication which kept the Festival going each year, and the drive of the Wexford people to see it survive, and prosper.
