Fr. Frank Bergin comes from a farming background in the Slieve Bloom area, and with his father was involved in horse dealing during the Economic War. After his ordination he worked in Lincolnshire, from 1948, in the Irish Chaplaincy Scheme. He returned to Ireland in 1950 to work in the parish of Shinrone having spent a short time in Co Clare and in Cloughjordan.
