In the second recording, Hanora’s father Robert Montgomery Ovens is recalled as she discusses her Kerry cousins and the turbulent Civil War days when her father acted as unofficial mediator between the Republicans and the Free State personnel. During the 1920s, many of their close friends and relatives of the Ovens family had to leave Ireland in great haste but the family stayed at their home. Hanora describes the Earls of Leitrim in Carrigart as great friends of the family in former times.
