Track 1: Ned Stack, originally from North Kerry, was brought in by the Beechers as manager of Castlehyde estate five generations ago, and his descendant Irene Walsh discusses that time. She also discusses the division of the estate in her grandfather’s day. Track 2: Her earliest memories from childhood at Deerpark are recalled. Track 3: The purchase of land by her family through the Land Commission is discussed. Track 4: The Hyde family of Castlehyde, their ironmills there and other enterprising activities on the estate are discussed, as is the ferry on the Blackwater River during Irene Walshe’s time. Track 5: The Emergency period and the rationing of goods is recalled. Track 6: Irene Walsh got married in 1946, and she discusses her husband’s subsequent work in the farm at Deerpark. She also names the various people who lived at Castlehyde over her lifetime. Track 7: The staff who worked at Castlehyde over the years are recalled. Track 8: The purchase of Castlehyde by Michael Flatley and the wonderful restoration work which as taken place.
