John Collins grew up in Dun Laoghaire, where he spent most of his life. In his recording he recalls his involvement with the Associated Seed Growers during the Emergency period, his later involvement with the County Production Section, and later still, with the Turf Development Board. He witnessed the inception of Bord na Móna, and the setting up of its administrative structure. John Collins began work for Bord na Móna in the Accounts Department in Dublin at the age of 28. He details the circumstances of his later appointment as Assistant to the Chief Engineer Paddy Cogan, and the work that this position entailed. He spent almost all of his long working life with Bord na Móna and much time in the later years working with the unions.
