John Gilbride was born into a very politically strong family in Sligo and having qualified as a teacher, he moved to Balbriggan where he taught Irish and other subjects in the VEC there. He became a member of the Fianna Fail party and was involved in Local Government for many years. He speaks in some depth about the period when Charles Haughey was Taoiseach, about the gun-running, the split in the party and corruption within the party.
