Track 1: The experience of growing up in a republican household, based over the Fáilte Hotel in Killarney, is described by Niall O’Callaghan. He recalls his grandfather, Michael O’Callaghan, who was among the founders of Dawn Dairies, and his father, Dermot O’Callaghan – a loyal friend of Jackie Healy Rae. Track 2: Niall O’Callaghan was elected to Killarney Urban Council as an Independent in 2004. His main reason for becoming involved, which was to help to bring tourism to the town, is discussed, as is the camaraderie which exists among the councillors. Track 3: His support of various bodies in Killarney which work for the betterment of the town is discussed, as are the efforts of the Council to keep rates as low as possible. The difficulties with unpaid rates are also discussed. Track 4: Major sporting events in Killarney, and the great benefit these bring to the town, are described and a discussion on the payments and expenses of councillors follows. The work undertaken by the Council on the preservation of historical and important properties in Killarney is explained.
