In 2013, a penannular brooch, which a wealthy individual would once have used for fastening a cloak, was discovered in a pan of turf ashes which had been taken from the fire at the home of the Edgeworths, situated two miles from Ballylongford, on the Ballybunion road. Joe Deenan, brother to Sheila Edgeworth, describes the harvesting of the turf while on location at the nearby bog from which the turf used in the Edgeworth home was taken. Archaeologist Lar Dunne describes the brooch and its function. This wonderful artifact may now be viewed at Kerry County Museum in Tralee.
