Paddy is a Dublin man from a railway family. He was born in Tralee, Co Kerry – in Ballymullen – and spent many summers in Castlegregory. His father worked on the Tralee/Dingle line. We recorded his memories of the railway during a trip on the Tralee/Blennerville steam train. The interview was conducted on location on the occasion of the reopening of the length of railway line that ran between Tralee and Blennerville. We were on the footplate of engine and also sitting in the carriage while discussing the history of the line. Also discussed were the railway lines that ran between Tralee and Fenit and betweeen Tralee to Renard, Caherciveen. Paddy spoke about his maternal grandfather’s occupation which was sign writing on shop fronts, which included gold-leafing and marbleising
