In this recording Thomas Murtagh provides a detailed history of the Turraun Bog, the good and the bad harvests, the local farmers who worked side by side with the Bord na Móna workers and who sold their own turf independently. He recalls the huge disappointment in Ballinasloe when a new state of the art briquette factory was abandoned due to the cost of labour and bank charges. £9,000,000 had been invested in the venture. During the final nine years of his career, Thomas Murtagh spent much of his time travelling to the various Bord na Móna works as he provided his expertise on costings.
