Pauline McCordy’s surname before marriage was Michael and her family came originally from Northern Ireland. She describes her grandfather William Michael’s success as a property entrepreneur. Pauline’s father worked as a General Practitioner in Malahide and was a member of the Plymouth Brethren. She creates a vivid word picture of her sheltered upbringing and her privileged position, which was very far removed from the children of the local community. She recalls that world in which she was pampered by the domestic staff, at a time so far removed from today.
