In this recording, Eithne Scallan recalls her father’s fascinating background. Eithne first attended the Opera in 1958. She came to Wexford to work in 1964 and was appointed to the position as secretary to the Festival because of her fluency in French and Italian. She describes the circumstances which led to her marriage to her late husband, Sean Scallan, a devoted opera enthusiast. She speaks about the chorus and their enthusiasm for learning European scores, the emphasis on lighting and costumes, and the directors down through the years. She details the great benefits the Festival in the town of Wexford has bestowed on the local people over the past 54 years.
