Eric Lynch grew up in Killaloe, and recalled his early memories of the town, its people and its characters. He spoke about the local slate quarries, and about traditional Irish music in the area. He had a rare dapping-book (1911 to 1944) which was fascinating to read as it gave a day-to-day account of conditions, catches and fishing pools, all associated with Lough Derg. He spoke about the mayfly in fishing season, and how he would still row a boat instead of using an outboard engine. Our conversation then switched to his early days of teaching in Limerick city, and the great satisfaction he derived from his teaching career.
