Description
On a visit to the home of a long-established family, the Kennys. I recorded Henry Kenny’s memories of his days growing up there, and his deep interest in his ancestral background. He mentioned his uncle’s time spent with the fire brigade in New York; the tragic death of his grandfather following a fall from a horse. Henry Kenny spoke about his own association with the Ormonde Hunt – horse-breeding was a major part of his life. Some of his major successes with horses included ‘Brown Jack’, the winner of the Grand National and ‘Temple Beg’ and ‘Ballybrack’, winners of the Foxhunter Chase. The recording also took in the Troubles of the 1916-1922 period. In a most informative interview which gave a great insight into a gentleman’s way of life in former days.
