When a new semi-state body was set up specifically to exploit the bogs of Ireland, James Martin was appointed as a mechanical and electrical engineer in the 1930s. He was based in Government Buildings, 28 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin. James gives a first-hand account of how the management carried out its business in the early days of the Irish turf cutting programme.
