Jim McNamara was born on 31st January 1918. His place of birth was Clareen Lodge, Shinrone. He started his working life with his father in Mount St. Joseph, Roscrea, and then went on to work in Roscrea Meat Factory for 23 years. He had a great love of the GAA and hurled for Brosna and Shinrone. Up to two weeks before he died, he could recall matches played between 1930 and 1932. He loved gardening and nature and his happiest times were spent walking through the woodlands observing nature. He was married and had eight sons and five daughters.
