Mary Burrell is a native of Limerick where her father was headmaster of Villiers School, Henry Street. She attended Trinity College and one of her lecturers was Dr Pyle, her future father-in-law. Her husband, Fergus Pyle, became a renowned correspondent for the Irish Times. She recalls accompanying her husband as he worked as a foreign correspondent in Northern Ireland and in France.
