Track 1: The Herbert family of Cahernane, who owned Cahernane until the 1900s, are recalled by Richard Hilliard. Track 2: Miss Gwendoline Herbert returned in 1928 and lived in a house in the gardens until 1944. Richard Hilliard recalls his many conversations with her. Track 3: The Herbert family connections and the family lands. Track 4: Richard Hilliard discusses his grandfather’s purchase of the Lake Hotel in 1897. Track 5: The genealogy of the Hilliard family who set up businesses in Killarney town. Track 6: In 1916, Richard Hilliard’s father, Richard, joined the family business, building up the shoe factory from 1931. Richard Hilliard was brought up at Coolclogher House. Track 7: Richard Hilliard recalls his childhood at Coolclogher House, describing the interior and the use of rooms. In 1944 the family moved to a newly built house on the lakeshore. Track 8: His years working as a travelling salesman for the family business until its closure are recalled by Richard Hilliard. Track 9: The closure of Hilliards of Killarney in the 1970s is discussed. Track 10: Some of the big houses and estates around the Killarney area are recalled by Richard Hilliard.
