This interview focuses on families such as the Evanses, of which there were two, the O’Connors and the Fitzgeralds, all of whom took advantage of land re-appointment, which came about because of the Land War Agitation, which in turn led to the breaking up of large estates in the Midlands. The Land Commission made it possible for families to swap their land, and Bob Evans clearly remembers the day when his family took a special train from Castlemaine in Co Kerry to Portarlington Station. He continued by explaining how the family integrated over the following years.
