This recording was compiled at the home of Babby Colohan in Eyrecourt on the eve of Halloween, where a gathering of local women took place. They discussed the old customs associated with the pagan festival. Stories relating to the Shannon River surfaced and recalled were the eleven cottages which were prone to flooding and from which the occupants were relocated in the 1950s. The people who were moved at that time are remembered and discussed. Also discussed were piseogs, the banshee and fairy lore. A local Cillín was mentioned, and a discussion ensued on the way in which wakes were conducted in the area. Some rhymes and riddles of childhood were recited. Also contributing to this recording is Brendan Spelman from Clonfert, who was recorded on location at the old abandoned cottages near the Shannon.
