George Bridges began the recording with memories of his schooldays, and his childhood amazement at the sight of shawled women coming across the bay with big bags of cockles, which would be sold on the streets of Wexford. He recalls his apprenticeship with Lipton’s shop. During the war years he joined the Rolls-Royce factory in Wolverhampton, which produced components for warplanes. Directly after the war years, he returned to Wexford to set up a toy distribution factory.
