Johnny Cummins came from a farming background and in this recording he discusses his earliest memories of his school days, when he wore a bib coat, knee breeches and clogs. He goes on to talk about his confirmation, his work on the land, sowing crops, and the severe effects of the Economic War. He also describes the hurling matches played locally, as well as Fair Days in Tullamore, Ballincumber, Ballinasloe and Banagher. The Night of the Big Wind, a description handed down by his grandfather, is also recalled as are the 1916-1922 Troubles in the area.
