Padraig grew up in Dingle in the 1920s and 1930s and speaks at length about his schooldays and his scholarship to St. Brendans’s CBS in Killarney. He recalls his grandmother and provides examples of her wealth of local lore. Padraig describes his admission to Maynooth in 1945 as a clerical student, recalling the lecturers and the strict rules and regulations which students endured at that time.
