A native of Waterford, Noreen Butler was a champion hockey player and she speaks in great detail about her hockey career, during which she played on the Irish team in Australia. She married Frank Butler and arrived in Wexford Town in 1957. She recalls her fond memories of attending all the operas since the very beginning, and her husband’s involvement with them. He worked as an accountant with Stafford’s Company, and sat on many committees. She quickly sensed the community spirit in the town and was very easily accepted. She recalls entertaining the VIPs when they arrived for the Festival, and performed this pleasant duty according to Dr Tom Walsh’s wishes.
