Phil Larkin runs a corner shop and bicycle repair business. This recording includes many stories associated with the local hurling clubs, and the great rivalry between them. His close relationship with his father, with whom he worked repairing bicycles since he was a boy, is mentioned. He talks about the people of the Village, its characters, its places and its close-knit community.

Phil Larkin’s bicycle repair shop is situated at the corner of the Village, and beside the family’s grocery business. While repairing a bicycle wheel Phil spoke to me about his school days, growing up in a place very different from today. This recording was special in that it captured the real story of how the villagers lived, worked and played in days gone by.
