With a background in the study of historical literature, Margaret Hogan, with the help of Joe Shortt, a local collector of oral history, worked to form a Historical Society in the early 1970s in Birr. We discussed the district poorhouse, formerly one of the largest buildings in the area and the conversation concluded with a discussion on the Gospel Book of Macregol of Birr which was the subject of Margaret`s research.
