Betty O’Brien grew up in the town of Wexford, and worked in the motor trade for 21 years, after which she joined an American company called G.M.P Europe Limited. Her passion for opera originated with her parents, who were deeply involved in classical music. Her father, John James O’Brien, had a great baritone voice and joined the Wexford Male Voice Choir. She recalls her days occupied with the making of costumes. She would sit and listen to the dress rehearsals while sewing the costumes. In 1987 she was auditioned for a part in the opera, which brought great joy to her life. At present Betty is working part time in the box office.
