In the early 1990s while teaching in the local school, Noel MacMahon found time to travel around the parishes of Shinrone and Ballingarry to record the recollections of elderly people for a local journal which was published some years later, and edited by Noel himself. Now these old tape recordings form an important part of the Irish Life and Lore Collection from Co. Offaly.
