Since Patsy Maher was old enough to ride, she participated in many organised events which took place locally, including the hunt. Her uncles in Ballinkeel bred and trained fine horses, including the legendary Frigate, which won the Grand National in 1889. Patsy was short listed for the Olympics in Montreal in 1976. She has clear memories of her father exhibiting his many fine silver trophies in the fifties. She also speaks about her travels to Scotland, England and Dublin and the many successes and disappointments of her long career.
