Vincentian Fr. Tom Davitt grew up in Donnybrook in Dublin and in this recording, he describes his background, explaining that he joined the Vincentian Order in 1934. He was appointed Archivist of the Vincentian community and he discusses his many years in this interesting role. Michael Davitt, who founded the Irish Land League, was his grandfather and, in the recording, Fr. Tom recalls the person rather than the historical figure. He describes his work in researching the Davitt papers and discusses some of the content. Fr. Tom’s father grew up in the family home in Dalkey, and Tom included in this recording an earlier recording his father compiled which provides details about the family plot in Glasnevin Cemetery.
